Welcome. I’m Mona Gergeleit – founder of Realization of Origin, writer and researcher exploring the relationships between people, nature, culture and society.
Realization of Origin began with a simple question:
How are people, nature, culture and society truly connected?
The more I searched for answers, the clearer it became that the greatest challenges of our time cannot be understood in isolation. Pollution, environmental degradation, climate change, biodiversity loss, poverty, hunger, social polarization, loneliness and declining mental health are not separate crises. They are interconnected symptoms of a deeper disconnection—from ourselves, from one another and from the living world of which we are a part.
This realization became the foundation of what eventually evolved into Realization of Origin.
My Journey
I grew up in northern Germany, surrounded by forests, fields and a close connection to nature. Looking back, this environment taught me something I only fully understood years later: that relationships are the foundation of life.
My path was anything but linear. I trained in hospitality, studied socioeconomics and law, worked in restaurants and organizational management, travelled extensively throughout South America, and eventually spent several years living in Peru.
Each experience offered a different perspective on how people live, learn, cooperate and create meaning.
Rather than searching for a single discipline, I found myself working between them.
A Different Way of Seeing
Over time, I realised that many disciplines describe the same reality through different lenses, yet their insights often remain disconnected. A forest, for example, is simultaneously an ecosystem, a climate regulator, a cultural landscape, an economic resource, a home to countless species and a place of spiritual meaning. Each discipline reveals one aspect of this reality, but none can fully explain the whole.
Many of today’s challenges arise precisely where these connections are overlooked. Realization of Origin emerged from the desire to reconnect these perspectives, reveal the relationships between them and offer a more integrated way of understanding the world.
My Work
Today I develop what I call orientation tools.
The Compass Library explores the relationships between people, nature, culture and society, making complex knowledge easier to understand and apply.
Alongside the book, this work includes educational resources, regenerative projects and collaborations with communities that protect traditional knowledge and ecological practices.
The accompanying shop supports these projects through products created with respect for people, craftsmanship and nature.
Because every decision shapes the world around us, the shop is not separate from this work—it is part of it. We all eat, dress and consume. The question is not whether we participate, but how. By working with natural materials, traditional craftsmanship and small-scale production, I hope to contribute to a more regenerative way of living—one that values relationships over exploitation, quality over quantity, and responsibility over convenience.
Why This Matters
Knowledge alone is no longer enough. What we need is orientation: the ability to recognise patterns, understand relationships and make thoughtful decisions in an increasingly complex world.
Realization of Origin seeks to contribute by helping us ask better questions.
